Abstract

The article deals with “false friends” phrasemes relating their creative usage in
German and Russian. The phenomenon of set expressions, that seem to coincide in their actual meanings in two languages due to their similar morphosyntactic structures or similar inner images, is of
great interest in linguistics and translation theory. Creative usage of such expressions by native speakers can add to the problem of right perception and real meaning decoding by non-native speakers. The article aims to identify creative potential of German and Russian “false friends” phrasemes
on semantic and morphosyntactic levels, which could contribute to their proper usage and help to
avoid mistakes. Contrastive analysis of lexicographic sources and modern corpora data helps to verify
changes occurred with “false friends” phrasemes.
