Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the poetics of Charlotte Brontë’s poem “Pilate’s Wife’s Dream”. It considers the composition of the Brontë sisters’ book “Poems” where the material is organized into triptychs and “Pilate’s Wife’s Dream” starts the first of them, which is devoted to the feeling of faith. It analyzes historical and lyrical plots that form the genre originality of the poem. It reveals that the poem belongs to the genre of romantic lyrical ballad. It discovers that “Pilate’s Wife’s Dream” is a prologue to the poetry collection of the Brontë sisters: light and darkness, central motifs of the ballad, become leitmotifs of the book and organize its artistic space.
