The article discusses Valery Yakovlevich Bryusov’s translation reception of the poem «The Swan» (1885) by Stéphane Mallarmé from the perspective of Western European and Russian literary traditions. The article views the third variant of Bryusov’s sonnet translation, applying the comparative analysis of the original text and its translation. As a result, the specificity of Bryusov’s perception of S. Mallarmé’s images in the context of domestic and Western European authors’ work was determined, and the peculiarities of the Bryusov’s symbolist poetics were highlighted.
