Abstract

The article considers one of the way of solving the problem of the status of humanities from the point of hermeneutics, presented in the concept of potentiality, which was developed in Vaisly Rozanov’s «On understanding».
The author focuses on the features of the position of the subject and the object in the structure of Geisteswissenschaften, considering them, according to Rozanov’s idea, as a co-participatory unity of the potencies of the mind and the potencies of things. It is concluded that historical examples of the development of hermeneutics are still relevant for modern epistemological discussions about the status of humanities.
