Abstract

The article discusses the cultural code in Korean idioms with the somatic component “nose”, which is one of the central concepts in linguаculturology. Cultural codes actualize interconnections between the system of symbols and images imprinted in the Korean language and spheres of the world of Koreans. The metaphorical nature of the body code “nose” is studied as an element of the Korean people’s thinking and cognition of their world. The scientific novelty is due to the fact that through the body code, the evaluative description of a person who translates the value orientations of historically conditioned Korean culture, is updated. The research methodology was based on various methods, in particular, on linguo-cultural method, the method of contextual semantic analysis, the method of pragmatic analysis in their synthesis, mutual influence and complementarity. The analysis of somatic Korean idioms selected by the continuous sampling method allows us to identify the main semantic fields that determine the functional features of the nose attributed to it in Korean linguoculture.
