Abstract

The article studies the poetics of landscapes in John Fowles’ novel “The French Lieutenant’s Woman”. The features of the composition of landscapes, key mythological, literary and pictorial allusions, the role of some landscape images (wind, ash, ivy) are considered. A link between the descriptions of natural landscape and the development of the theme of initiation is revealed.
