Abstract

The article discusses the anthology of the Japanese poet Takamura Kotaro (1883–1956) “Poems about Chieko” (“Chiekosho”, 1912–1952). The linguacultural components of the text, extralinguistic factors of its creation are revealed. Translation criteria are evaluated. The study is
illustrated by the translations into Russian and English of the poem “Awakening on a Winter Morning” (“Fuyu no Asa no Mezame”, 1912). In translation into English, the equivalence of texts is achieved and the author’s style is observed. The Russian translation is made in the free manner of an adequate translation.
