National and cultural heritage in the context of memory politics in the Republic of Altai and Mongolia

Abstract

The article is devoted to the comparative study of the use of the historical past for the construction of national identities and tourist branding in the context of memory politics in the Republic of Altai and Mongolia. It is determined that an integral part of the historical memory of these regions is the archeological heritage of the Pazyryk culture and sacralized monuments of nomadic culture. National holidays: Chagaa Bayram and Tsagan-sar, as well as El Oyyn and Naadam remain a form of preserving traditions with a common historical narrative. The symbolic series of the Soviet period is actualized by the events of military history, the iconic figures of the regions are Genghis Khan and G.I. Gurkin.
