Jukujikun, ateji and kokuji in modern Japanese (functional problem)

Abstract

The article deals with some problems of the vocabulary of the modern Japanese language. The history of borrowing Chinese hieroglyphic writing and its adaptation to the needs of the Japanese language is traced. Data are given on the reasons for the fixation in the lexical system of the Japanese language of numerous variants of reading Chinese morphemes, depending on their compatibility, context and meaning that they convey. The problem of functioning is considered on the examples of lexical units depending on their origin and belonging to the layer of wago, kango, gairaigo or consyugo.
