Abstract

The article is devoted to the history of the Russian community in Tianjin (the first half of the 20th century), which was the third largest (after Harbin and Shanghai). Its basis was a large Russian concession, established in 1900. In the article, the authors analyzed the reasons for the arrival of Russians in Tianjin. After the end of the Civil War in
1922, many refugees from Russia arrived in the city, who lived mainly in the Xiao-bai-lou quarter, as well as in other foreign concessions. The publication is based on Chinese sources and literature, as well as the authors' field materials (2010–2021). At the same time, the Chinese researchers' view of the history of Russian emigration is very important.
The relevance of this article is the addition of gaps in Russian historiography by Chinese sources and literature. Example of Russian life in Tianjin gives many examples how Russians lived well in this Chinese city.
