Abstract

This article provides a comparative analysis of the perception
of the «yellow question» by representatives of the Amur region
authorities and agricultural societies in the late 19th and early
20th centuries. The reasons for the suspicious attitude towards
«yellow labor» on the part of the bureaucracy (fear of espionage; competition; parasitism of peasants as a result of the presence of Koreans and Chinese, etc.) are revealed. The reasons for the positive attitude on the part of agrarian societies (lack of agricultural workers; the need to improve agriculture; poor development of the territory) are characterized.
