Abstract

The article provides a brief overview of the education system in Japan, in force at the time of arrival of the first Christian Jesuit missionaries. It turns out how local educational institutions influenced the level of literacy of the Japanese, as well as the development of science and art. The motives that prompted the Jesuits to found their educational institutions in Japan. Comparing two systems education: valid in Japan at the time of arrival there the Jesuits and an alternative, created by missionaries by the Jesuits. In addition, the features of the educational and upbringing activities of the Jesuits in terms of Japanese culture.
