In the year of the 125th anniversary of the Oriental Institute, the editorial board of our journal addressed former and current employees of the Institute, representatives of various fields of science, with a request to tell about the past and present of Far Eastern Oriental studies, about the development of their departments and research areas, and about their own professional activities. The collected materials - essays and interviews - will be published in the future on the pages of "News of the Oriental Institute". In this issue, we present to our readers a short version of the conversation with the outstanding Japanologist and the first editor-in-chief of the journal, revived in 1994, Zoya F. Morgun.
