Contemporary Russian-Philippine Relations: Challenges and Opportunities

This article is devoted to the main areas of cooperation between Russia and the Philippines in the present.
It discusses the prerequisites for the development of bilateral relations along with the results of interaction in the spheres of interstate relations, economy, security, culture over the past decade and a half. The article also examines the problematic aspects of bilateral relations, reflects the impact of the American factor on the nature of Russian Philippine interaction, primarily in the context of strengthening of the US military and political presence in the Western Pacific and the involvement of the Philippines in the policy of containing China. The paper presents proposals and arguments regarding the rapprochement between Russia and the Philippines, indicating the reasons that may affect the establishment of stable relations between the two countries. The methodological basis of the work is the analysis of
the research findings of both Russian and international scholars, as well as materials and documents that are available on the topic of research.
