Abstract

The article presents a linguistic and regional study analysis of Japanese funeral rites. The attempt to combine language learning, Japanese one in this case, and acquiring knowledge about the country represents the modern trends in teaching foreign languages. It makes possible to enrich students’ comprehension of the country’s traditions and the mentality of its people, as well as to correlate the lexical material they have learned with real life. Describing the funeral ceremony in Japan, the author used both information from Japanese sources and his own observations.
