Abstract

The article reveals the attitudes towards A.S. Pushkin among the Russians living in Japan. Having found themselves in another cultural environment, they considered the poet a symbol of the lost motherland. Emigre ideologists, in their turn, truing to integrate the Russian diaspora, made Pushkin's name a banner under which different groups of Russian immigrants could interact. The article is based on the materials from the Russian-language press in Japan and China from the collections of the University of Hawaii Library (Honolulu, USA) and the Museum of Russian Culture in San Francisco.
