This paper raises the importance of research skills at the present time and problematizes the lack of systematic student activity in scientific activities at the School of Economics and Management, regardless of the increase in scientific activities by the university to develop students. The author analyzes the historical context of the development of science in higher education and the modernization of this process, as well as the consequences of the integration of science into other spheres. Delving into the context of the School of Economics and Management, the author talks about the availability of great opportunities for students on the part of students, but about poorly developed immersion in science, which may be the reason for the lack of student activity in science. To answer the question, the values and behavior of students are analyzed according to the typology of Clark and Trow student subcultures and types of Gerchikov's internal motivation. According to the results of the analysis, it turns out that students of the Collegiate subculture predominate in Shem and students mostly have a professional and patriotic type of motivation. This suggests that students are driven by ideas of professional growth and a sense of importance in common affairs, for this it is necessary to use new formats to represent science and involve teachers to build the right image of a scientist among students.
