“Far Eastern Hectares” Development: What Does Investment in Land Depend upon?

Abstract

The paper presents the results of the series of empirical
studies of the Far Eastern Hectare Program launched
in 2016. The official indicators of the Program performance are the number of “hectares” provided. In view of this, the authors attempt to explain the factors that may affect the demand for “hectares”, but above all the propensity to develop the land received. The investigations showed that such factors might include the practice of “hectares” developing among the acquaintances, expectations regarding the potential land value
in the future, as well as the availability of business
ideas among the potential participants of the Program.
