В центре внимания статьи находится работа американского философа Майкла Брэди «Страдание и добродетель», которая представляет собой системное исследование понятия страдания с экстерналистской точки зрения. Автор предпринимает попытку в биоэтическом аналитическом ключе критически переосмыслить наиболее дискуссионные и эвристичные моменты книги М. Брэди.
