CHINESE WRITING AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE LINGUISTIC TERM MOTIVATION

Abstract

The paper analyzes the motivation of Chinese linguistic terminology. The analysis tends to identify various factors, which affect the motivation of Chinese linguistic terms. The influence of writing on motivation when borrowing terms is especially considered. The material of our research was selected from the dictionary “Dacihai. Linguistic Volume” (one of the 38 volumes of the encyclopedic dictionary, first published in China in 1936). In our research more than 1,800 Chinese linguistic terms have been analyzed. There are several types of methods in our research such as method of describing and method of continuous sampling.
