The perception of A.I. Solzhenitsyn by Russian emigration (based on S.D. Dovlatov's novel «The Branch»)

Abstract

The article is devoted to identifying the peculiarities of perception of A.I. Solzhenitsyn's figure by representatives of the third wave of emigration, whose positions were embodied in S.D. Dovlatov's novel «The Branch». The result of the study was the definition of a metaphorical gap between Solzhenitsyn and representatives of the third wave of emigration, in whose perception the classic writer is an abstract symbol of the era, existing within the framework of the story at a level unattainable for compatriots. The anecdotal situations created by the novelist subtly reflect his skeptical attitude towards the socio-political views of the «ruler of thoughts», whose ideas appear to Dovlatov, who reflected in the «The Branch» the sentiments prevailing in the emigrant environment, extremely distracted from real life practice and, what is of fundamental importance to the author, the fate of his compatriots.
