Abstract

The philosophy of existentialism occupies an important place in modern Japanese culture and overlaps with traditional Japanese spiritual tradition, which represents a fusion of Shintoism, Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Independent creative work in Japan often focuses on typical problems for existentialism: a place of an individuum in the society, a conflict between one’s own desires and the other’s expectations, a balance of freedom and responsibility etc. The main goal of the research is to define peculiarities of Japanese existentialism through the analysis of the song lyrics created in 2010–2020.
