The author proceeds from the thesis that when forming the scientific apparatus of criminology it is important to consider the purpose of the term, the scope of its application, as well as its relationship with the available criminological methods of research, by which the studied term will be meaningfully filled. Clarification of the criminological concept of recidivism has both scientific and applied significance. Firstly, despite the prevalence of the term, its interpretation varies greatly from one study to another. Secondly, the clarification of terminology will allow to formulate specific proposals to improve the system of recording of recidivism, in particular, the existing forms of statistical reporting to make them more informative. Different approaches to the understanding of criminological recidivism were analyzed. The problem of insufficient informativeness of the available forms of statistical reporting on recidivism of crimes is considered. In conclusion the author offers his own terminological model, allowing to define the content of the term "criminological recidivism" and related concepts.
