Abstract

Post-penitentiary recidivism is investigated by the author in two qualities:
as an indicator of the effectiveness of the penal system and as an indicator of the effectiveness of criminal punishment in the form of imprisonment. The author analyzes postpenitentiary adaptation as a factor determining the effectiveness of both criminal punishment and correctional institutions. The author's method of studying post-penitentiary recidivism has been proposed, which will allow assessing the effectiveness of the activities
of various places of imprisonment in terms of the implementation of criminal punishment.
