The article examines South Korean experience of political and legal regulation of artificial intelligence (AI). The primary sources for the present study are Republic of Korea’s (ROK) strategies in the relevant field, regulatory acts from the Korean Law
Information Center database, official web-pages of South Korean public bodies, and publications in South Korean media. The authors analyzed such aspects of AI regulation policy as strategic planning and institutional organization, rulemaking, regulation of selfdriving cars, utilization of AI in public administration, AI ethics. The authors conclude
that the development and utilization of AI technologies are among the most important
challenges of social development and public policy in South Korea.
