Income of the US population during the Great Depression and World War II

The Great Depression and World War II are important events in the history of mankind in the 20th century. The world order established at that time remains in place today, although it has reached a major political crisis requiring changes. The United States is a key participant in the events of those years and still remains a country that shapes the current agenda on the world political and economic stage. This country is the main initiator of the hybrid war against Russia, in connection with which not only its present, but also its past is of interest. Any economic changes are reflected in the standard of living of the population. In this paper, an analysis of the income of the US population for 1929–1957 is conducted. The results of the study revealed that after a significant drop in citizens' incomes during the Great Depression (1929–1932) and some post-crisis recovery, a sharp increase in citizens' incomes was noted during the Second World War. Moreover, immediately after the war, the personal income of Americans decreased significantly, which reflects the onset of a new crisis. The structure of sources of income of the population reflects the growth of the state, and, in particular, the military sector of the economy. Taking advantage of the war, the USA was able to turn its country into the largest and dominant economy in the world.
