Abstract

In the context of political and economic changes taking place in the world and the introduction of Western sanctions against Russia, it has become relevant to study the socio-economic changes taking place in Western countries and in our country. Indicators of the standard of living of the population are a good indicator of the state of the country's economy as a whole. An important indicator that determines the living standard of citizens is the average salary. This study analyzes average weekly wages in Australia from 2000 to 2023 by state and major city in the country. The results of the analysis revealed an increase in the level of real wages in the country in the analyzed period, as well as a decrease in differentiation between the territories and cities of the country. The tendency to increase the share of wages in part-time employment has been determined, which is associated with an increase in the standard of living of citizens and their ability to work part-time, as well as with crisis phenomena in the country’s economy, giving rise to an increase in hidden unemployment.
